So another year of musicial talent within the UK industry has passed leaving just the gossip to be to discussed, but was the Brits really what you expected them to be?
Winners of the night:
Plan B - Best British Male Solo Artist
Ben Drew from forest gate was the first winner of the night. The East Londoner beat out tough competition such as Tinie Tempah who was nominated for 3 other awards. He looked genuinely astonished when his name was read out, but congratulations to him after such as successful year in 2010 after his album took 3 years to right and he missed out on winning Best British Album. His performance of "She Said/Praying" was like a "violent episode of Porridge" according to host James Corden... if only I'd watched Porridge. Mr Drew set the stage alight, literally by having a man run on stage on fire. Yes it was planned, it was genuis and astonishing.
Laura Marling - Best British Female Solo Artist
In the famous words of Nikki Grahame (BB7), "Who is she... Who is she... Where did you find her?" - which is exactly what I thought when I heard her name being called out. Her unfamilar face didn't seem to help and by beating out the nations sweetheart Cheryl Cole for the title of best british female solo artist, who also missed out on best british single leaving with ultimately nothing but her pretty looks. Although I'm sure I wasn't the only one wishing that Cheryl would pop out and do a Kanye West move and grab the gong off her Miss Marling and she looks like she's as sweet as Taylor Swift. Well with a brit under her belt I suppose at least Laura can leave with her head high and maybe produce music that could possible chart making her slightly more recogniseable within the industry. Her simple speech and outfit suggests maybe she just attended the awards to say she was there... we'll never know.
Take That - Best British Group
Between them including the award Robbie William's had collected whilst a solo artist they have an outstanding 20 brit gongs between them, and its no surprise they've finally won Best British Group. They're classic fish and chips in the evening and a nice sunday roast. They all seemed simply pleased to have won and their opening performance seemed to start off the army trend which Plan B clearly followed in the army trend. Imagine a collab between these two artists. Now that would definately be best of british!
Mumford & Sons - Best Album
Never heard of them before the brits? Or even now? Well join the club because your not alone! If you ever don't know what to except at the Brits its these guys! Dressed as school boys playing their guitars I suppose the only thing missing from the performance was cows with bells and a couple of haystacks (not forgetting Billy Ray Cyrus). As well as performing they managed to steal best album away from Tinie Tempah, britians best UK group Take That and the best male solo artist Plan B. Still amazed like me? Well what can we say, it was the Brits!
Tinie Tempah - British Breakthrough Act & Best British Single ("Pass Out")
The man of the moment and talk of the whole town, collecting his first award of the night for british breakthrough. No surprise with him winning best british single, as his amazing summer and party antheme for pass out lasted 50 weeks in the chart! The ever so humble Tinie Tempah aka Patrick Okogwu wanted to thank Labrinth but ironically he seemed to be in the 'lab' flushing himself off. Labrinth later joined him as they made a smashing performance starting off with Tinie's 'Written in the Stars' feating Eric Turner who remained the same scruffy hair and shirtless look he had in the video, which then swiftly moved onto the catchy party antheme 'Miami to Ibiza' then leading into the explosive 'Pass Out'. It was definately a night for Tinie Tempah to pass out, hopefully the success continues to grow. Best wishes!
Cee-Lo Green - Best International Male Solo Artist
Although winning best international male solo artist his vocals in his performance with Paloma Faith seemed to lack the excitement that Florence & Machine and Dizzie Rascal. However after arriving 6hrs prior the show I suppose he didn't do that bad.
Rihanna - Best International Female Solo Artist
After her performance on the X Factor in 2010, chinese whispers began when everyone heard the girl of moment Rihanna was performing. How exactly would she pull of an even sexier and better performance thaN her "Only Girl/Whats My Name" mix from the winter. With the media lately buzzing around the red hot bajan princess' latest video which was banned in over 10 countries 'S&M' it was good to see a toned down version of the perfomance with no bondage in sight... but the outfits remained the same. It seems like this feisty 22 year old diva just cant win but its good to see her looking happy after collecting her gong from Cheryl Cole who is rumoured to be working with Rihanna on a collab?
Arcade Fire - Best International Group & Best Internation Album ("The Suburbs")
Beating off the likes of The Black Eyed Peas, The Kings of Leon, Cee-Lo Green, Eminem. These artist were frankly unknown to me, but my astonishment when they'd won 2 awards was amazing. Obviously they must be doing something right, not British but hey someone somewhere out there really loves them.
Justin Bieber - International Breakthrough Act
Whether your or a belieber or just want him to bee-off, Bieber differently has the charms for the ladies, sneaking cheeky kisses off Cheryl Cole and his 'fellow Canadian' Avril Lavrigne. Quirky Justin who turns 17 within a couple of weeks definately deserves this award by beating the likes of newcomers Bruno Mars, who's love songs definately can melt a girls heart. He already has sold-out tours already the world, sold millions of copies of his book and is due for a premiere his tonight in London (16th Feb 2011) for his new film "Never Say Never" .. the perfect slogan for him, and al the best wishes!
This award was no surprise for the Brit School graduate, after 6 years of working hard her efforts have finaly been noticed, but with a voice like that I wonder why it took so long. Already with 2 number 1 singles "Do It Like A Dude" and "Price Tag feat. B.O.B" under her belt, popular demand for collaborating with definately the woman of the moment who deserves this award following in the likes of Florence & the machine, Adele and Ellie Goulding. 2011 definately should be an amazing year for Jessie J, already with her album "Who You Are" being pushed forward to the end of this month. Good Luck Girl!
Congratulations to all the winners.. and the losers! Keeping British music alive.. until next year! #TeamUK
.. Meet 'Nicki Minaj the Harajuku Barbie'
Onika Maraj better known by her stage name 'Nicki Minaj' is undoubtably a hot topic of 2010 especially in the music industry. Some may say she is currently the best female rapper out there whilst others may disagree however apart from her incredible musical talent she has a unique style which is like marmite - you either love it or hate it.
These are just a few of her different styles:
However before the discovery of this barbie bitch, the connections of being a barbie doll meant being 'fake', so why is that the girls currently in this generation just want to be like Nicki Minaj? Some girls idolise her and believe she's their role model, although my opinion is most girls (especially those with 'harajuku barbie' or 'minaj' in facebook names etc) do this all for attention.
Why would you idolise to be someone else? Is it that hard to find your own identity that you have to steal a success female rappers? Or are you an attention seeker or maybe even ashamed of yourself? Especially some who has connections which the word 'plastic' and 'fake' because I'm sure 3years ago you would not have called yourself barbie or walked around on road saying 'imma bad bitch imma imma bad bitch'..
This post is basically just a reality check for girls (maybe boys) to be proud of who they and and not try and steal someone else's idenity or shine by becoming them. You'll achieve greater things by being yourself, and Nicki Minaj is a brilliant example of this.. :)
