JAPAN EARTHQUAKE

Thursday 11th March 2011. Do you remember where you was? Do you remember what you was doing? Was you happy? Was you with family and friends? Had you just had an arguement? Woke up maybe in a bad mood or even had a lie in? I remember where I was and what I was doing, this date was important for me as I was anxious to collect my AS Law and Sociology results, but this soon lost al meaning when I'd heard about the diaster in Japan.

Over 70% of Japan is with mountainous terrain with approximately 18% of the land mass suitable for settlement. The country has previously experienced hurricanes and earthquakes which is no surprise for the amount of mountain area which covers the country however Japan is "now facing the worst crisis since the end of the war 65years ago" according to Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Urging for major help from around the world the death toll has risen to over 1,000 people dead and 1,700 still missing.

Just over a year back ago Tuesday 12th January 2010, saw a diaster within the Caribbean island of Hati, killing an estimated 316, 000 and destroying the majority of the Capital city Port-au Prince. The hurricane was a major 7.0m (1.4m less than Japans). Several people gathered together to help and raise money for these victims and help fix the country to get back into normal state, but these earthquakes are affecting lifes and ruining countries but are they really inevitable? Isit just human nature which is just being blamed?

But isit right to say these Earthquakes are recurring so much and being caused by our affect on how we use the facilities in the world or isit just genuine natural disasters? Whatever the causes are, we can do something about it and although issues like this may not mean anything to some people but others are seriously affecting and just by reading this you are most likely more better off than others. So please send prayers and think of those less fortunate than yourself and hopefully one day peace be with the world.

GCSEs / RESULTS DAY (24TH AUGUST 2010)

Do you remember your first day of secondary school? All dressed up in perfect uniform with your tie down to your waist, freshly ironed shirt tucked into your trousers and over-sized blazer swamping you - and of course you had a bag which was twice your size carrying a dictonary, thesaurus, and the whole of WH Smith's inside..

.. Now your over-sized blazer's been replaced for a fitted one which emphasises your figure the most, your school shirt doesn't even have a top button and your excuse to the teacher is "I can't breathe when its done up", and it's a miracle if you can carry more than a book (if your lucky) in your bag.

Well now school's out and it's all just about the memories, "the good 'ole days" when you could literally get away with anything.. but those five years spent in secondary school, they were all crammed down into the dreaded "Year 11" - in the beginning you promised yourself you would knuckle down and made sure the main priority was to get your GCSEs but now 11months later in August your enjoying your summer when your mind slightly begings to doubt whether you'll pass? You think about the past 5 years, and the pressure of recieveing simply 5 A* - Cs (including maths, english & science) seem all too much. However a C and sometimes even a B isn't good enough for some people, they will simply only be satisfied with an A/A* ..

So after those 'stressful' yet fun 5 years of getting detentions, meeting some life changing (and not-so-life changing) friends, bunking just because your 'cool' enough to do so.. and most importantly the 8months of Year 11 and the 'hard work' and 'extra hours' you put in to stay behind school to meet those critical deadlines, will all the stress be worth it when you recieve your results on the 24th August? Or would you being hoping that we can make some wishes outta airplanes?
